Modern Farmhouse »
This contemporary styled farmhouse sits in an open Champlain Valley meadow with wide sweeping views of the Green Mountains to the east. The design melds together traditional forms with present-day aesthetic and technologies. The sharp lines of the white clapboard main body are juxtaposed against the more rustic tone of the attached entertainment barn. Modern touches such as large lift-n-slide patio doors along with sunken framed floor systems assist in blurring the barrier between indoors and outdoors. The painted white wall paneling that exists throughout the main house provides a thread that ties all the spaces together while suggesting a heightened sense of comfort.
Roundtree fabricated all of the custom paneling, moulding profiles and cabinetry in our shop in Benson, VT. We collaborated with the architect and many talented craftsmen to create unique features such as the sliding solar shade barn doors; hand hewn-look timber frame; stone walls; stone counters and stone fireplaces. Antique beams for the kitchen and old barn boards for the living room fireplace were items utilized to further tie the home to the local vernacular.
